RCMP investigators are urging witnesses to call police after a 51-year-old pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in the 800 block of Austin Avenue in Coquitlam.
The call came in to police on January 26, 2017, just before 8:00pm. In spite of the best efforts of the BC Ambulance Service the victim, a Coquitlam man, could not be saved.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian did not stop at the scene. It is a legal obligation for all of us to stop for every collision- but in this case it isn’t clear if the driver knew exactly what happened. Coquitlam RCMP have a direct message for the driver of the car last night:
Collisions at night can be very confusing says Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.
Right now we only have the perspective of witnesses. Until we hear from you, the driver, we won’t know your side and thus we won’t have the complete picture of what happened.
The Coquitlam RCMP Coordinated Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) is in the early stages to this investigation. If you or anyone you know saw or heard anything at around 8:00pm in the 800 block of Austin Avenue, please call the Coquitlam RCMP CCIT at 604-945-1550 and ask for Cpl. Quentin Frewing. If you have a tip that must remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or visit solvecrime.ca.
